I Have the Swine Flu!

I apologize for there being no podcast for this short entry; I am terribly congested and find it hard to record today.  In fact, I think I have the swine flu!  At least my symptoms seem to correspond with the checklist on the CDC.  Speaking of which, the swine flu sound so disgusting, doesn't it?   It sounds a little shameful and dirty—a slovenly type of disease.

I hate being sick—and I am normally so healthy.  My mother always said I have ‘hybrid vigor,’ resulting from being a multicultural mix of American and Egyptian parents.  In fact, this hybrid vigor has probably helped me enormously throughout my life because I am remarkably healthy for a person who has done the things to her body that I have.   I generally recovery from colds and flues very quickly so I hope that will be the case this time—as I really hate being sick.

Therefore, I am curled up in a pile of blankets on my couch—and once again, I say my grateful that I am lucky enough to have a job where I can work from home. I had planned to have another post for the end of this week but I just haven’t felt well enough to feel to be inspired to finish the post I started earlier in the week so I will save that for next week, when hopefully, I will feel better.

Stay healthy everyone!

Peace,

Melinda

I wonder why it is called The Mexican Flu in Holland!  The poor Mexicans--I'd rather blame the swine!

Haha. yeah I wonder why as well. We say 'Mexicaanse griep', translated it's the Mexican flu. Probably because the first cases were from Mexico.

Oh dear, Tricia, I am so sorry to hear that.  You get better too!  I'm sorry to hear your students are suffering--and mine are too.  I think I have too hard a head to get really sick--at least I hope so.

Hey Melinda, hope you get better soon. You know, Australia has had one of the largest outbreaks of swine flu anywhere!

That said, its really just another form of flu, and unless you're fairly weak, its unlikely to be fatal.

In fact, check this gorgeous chart out to put swine flu in perspective.

That said, I sympathise given I'm a terrible sick patient. I hate being couped up!

Hope you have plenty to keep you busy, but don't forget to get as much sleep in as you can manage. It really is a wonder for healing.

      Hey Svasti,

That chart is very enlightening, really--and I did know that too.  I think there really is too much hype surrounding this--people are so afraid when you hear 'swine flu.'  But you are right--it's just another type of flu, really.

I'm getting plenty of sleep and as classes are back in session, I am still able to work from home (I just have to take more frequent breaks).

Thank you so much for your well wishes--and stay healthy, particularly considering Australia has such an outbreak!

Take it seriously and get some serious rest! Where in the heck did you get the Oinksip ad? That is hysterical!

My husband has a bad, really bad cold. Or so we think that's what it is. He's gone to work this week but has felt awful. I sure hope I can avoid it. A local pharmacy is giving flu shots next Wednesday and I'll be in line (don't know when the piggy-type shots will be here.)

    Take good care.

I hope your husband feels much better quickly, Lydia--and I am so with you on the flu shots.  As soon as I am feeling better, I'm getting one.  After this, I don't want to be sick for a long time!

Thank you for your well wishes.

Aww--thank you so much for dropping back in to check on me!  I am much better than I was last week (I was really nauseous for a few days) but I am still sick.  I am hoping to improve a lot in the next couple of days because Les and I head to NYC for a long weekend and I want to be healthy so I can run around and have fun there!

I hope you are doing well.
